About Our Tournament:
The Kenny Huffman Tennis Classic was founded in 1973 to honor the memory of a successful local Pikeville tennis player, Kenneth Warren Huffman, who had passed away from cancer early that same year. The tournament was founded by Sue Huffman, Kenny's wife, and she is still active in the tournament today.
Originally the proceeds from the tournament provided funding for tennis scholarships at Pikeville College. Later the Kenneth Huffman Memorial Tennis Foundation, Inc. (a Kentucky non-profit and a IRS 501 c 3) was formed to raise funds primarily through the hosting of the annual Kenny Huffman Tennis Classic tournament. The funds raised are used to 1) promote the growth of tennis at all levels of play in East Kentucky; 2) to provide an annual scholarships in memory of Kenny Huffman to a deserving junior players from the 14th, 15th and 16th High School Regions to assist them in earning a college education, 3) to promote health/fitness, 4) to promote lifetime friendships, sportsmanship, and a friendly family tournament environment for our players and our community.
